게이들의 우연하고 일시적인 만남은 어둠처럼 존재했다가 사라진다. 밤의 공원에서는 낯선 사람과의 친밀하고도 긴장되는 관계가 일어난다. 외로움에서 시작된 관계는 종종 사태를 더 외롭게 만들기도, 예기치 못한 정서적 교류를 일으키기도 한다. 공적으로 인정받지 못하는 관계는 다른 사회적 관계와는 다른 특수한 상황을 만들어 낸다. 그 관계에서 “우리는, 함께” 하는 대신, “우리는, 각자” 존재한다. 그럼에도 그 또한 “우리”이며, 그 관계에는 단순한 감각으로 환원될 수 없는 친밀함과 슬픔이, 떨림과 충만함이, 여느 마음과 마음이 있다.

Like fleeting darkness, the chance encounters of gay men come and go. In the park at night, intimate and anxious relationships take place among strangers. Relationships begin out of loneliness, often leading up to lonelier moments, yet at times opening up unanticipated emotional exchanges. Socially disapproved contact gives way to unconventional communities. Instead of “we, together,” there is “we, alone.” The “we” stands nevertheless, vulnerable to intimacy and sorrow, a trembling and fulfillment, a heart and another.
