[대화] 와일드 페이퍼스: 미래만큼이나 예측불가한

사변적 작가이자 강사인 잉고 니어만, 큐레이터이자 연구자 추스 마르티네즈, 유지원이 온라인 출판 시리즈 “와일드 페이퍼스(Wild Papers)”*에 대해 대화를 나눕니다.
“와일드 페이퍼스”는 예술, 기술, 젠더, 자연 및 이러한 분야의 교차점의 미래에 영향을 미칠 시나리오를 불러 모읍니다. 다양한 저자의 단편 텍스트는 대본, 제안서, 개인적인 서술 등을 가로질러 생생한 세계를 펼쳐냅니다. 근대적 서구가 금지, 우상화, 타자로 전유해 온 ‘와일드’, 즉 야생은 통제해야 할 자연적 본성으로 오인되곤 합니다. 하지만 이 프로젝트는 이 사회의 단일성과 독점, 투기, 강박과 중독 등이 다름아닌 야생을 길들이며 파생된 강박적 반복에서 비롯된다는 관점에서 출발합니다. “와일드 페이퍼스”는 미래를 예측하려 하지 않습니다. 다만, 미래의 속성인 ‘예측불가함’에 기대어 동일성으로부터 탈피할 길을 모색합니다.

[Conversation] Wild Papers: As Unpredictable as the Future

We are hosting a conversation between speculative writer and lecturer Ingo Niermann, curator and researcher Chuz Martinez, and co-director of YPC SPACE Jiwon Yu around the online publication series “Wild Papers.”*
“Wild Papers” constitutes a collection of scenarios that affect the future of art, technology, gender, nature and all the interrelations among these fields. Authors from different backgrounds contribute short texts, scripting an idea or outlining a proposition to imagine a world as if they were seated next to you. The modern Western world has banned, projected, idolized, and appropriated the wild as the other. Monocultures, monopolies, speculative bubbles, filter bubbles, OCD, addictions … when the Western world “runs wild,” it’s not because natural impulses grow rampant but because domestication enforces compulsive repetition. Published in Korean and English, “Wild Papers” doesn’t aim to predict the future—it draws on the future’s inherent unpredictability to escape more of the same.
