스튜디오 프로젝트의 일환으로 초청 작가 아누락 탄야빨릿이 ’YEEDORA‘를 선보입니다. 6월 25일 오프닝 행사에서는 조미아(Zomia) 지역 민족의 커피와 차를 내드립니다. 이후 26, 27일 5-7시에는 편하게 오셔서 아누락과 대화를 나누실 수 있습니다. 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.
파카궤오어(카렌어)로 “아득히 먼 곳”을 뜻하는 ‘YEEDORA(이요도라)’는 아누락 탄야빨릿이 진행한 리서치 기반 사운드 설치 작업입니다. 탄야빨릿은 미얀마, 태국, 라오스, 베트남, 캄보디아, 방글라데시, 중국 남서부에 걸친 고산 지대 ‘조미아’의 소수 민족들이 어떻게 뉴스를 접하고 연결망을 형성하는지를 탐구하며, 치앙라이 국경을 따라 송출되는 단파 라디오와 온라인 방송으로부터 익숙하거나 전혀 낯선 20여 개 언어의 목소리를 수집했습니다. 이 소리들은 국가의 경계나 지형을 초월해, 보이지 않는 저항과 연결의 지도를 이루어냅니다. YPC SPACE에 설치된 이 작업은 멀리서 울려오지만 깊게 스며드는 목소리들을 한 공간에 모읍니다.
As part of the Studio Project, artist Anurak Tanyapalit presents YEEDORA. At the opening event, on June 25 we will be serving coffee and tea from the ethnic communities of the Zomia region. On the following days in 26th and 27th, the artist will be present for conversation and tea bewteen 5-7pm. We look forward to seeing you very soon.
YEEDORA—meaning “far, far away” in the Pakakayor (Karen) language—is a research-based sound installation by Anurak Tanyapalit that explores how ethnic communities in Zomia, a vast highland region spanning Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and southwestern China, access and share news. Surveying shortwave radio and internet broadcasts along the Chiang Rai border, Anurak gathered voices in over twenty languages—some familiar, others entirely unrecognizable. These transmissions defy national borders and terrain, forming an invisible network of connection and resistance. Installed at YPC SPACE, YEEDORA brings these distant voices together in one room, offering not just sound but resonances of memory, displacement, and survival.
